Summer 2018 Albums
Summer 2018 has bestowed musical blessings to all of our ears. From The Carter’s elaborate narrative of their family’s triumphs, trials and tribulations on “EVERYTHING IS LOVE,” to Drake’s shocking revelations about his son on “Scorpion” and Travis Scott’s trippy beats on “ASTROWORLD”— the hip-hop, pop and R&B music industry has continued to keep listeners on their toes with a variety of styles and lyrics for everyone.
Not only has Summer 2018 flipped conventional ways of releasing albums (many were dropped in secret without any promotions and even on the same day), but also the albums themselves. Artists such as Drake and Wiz Khalifa both came out with extremely long albums with 25 songs each— Drake’s being a double album featuring two different sides. On the other hand, artists such as Chance the Rapper and Teyana Taylor came out with more mixtape-style works, Chance with 4 singles and Teyana with 8 songs on her album K.T.S.E.
While somewhat confusing to pick a favorite album amongst a sea of beautifully crafted musical projects, I have compiled a list of some of the most noteworthy and worthwhile pieces of this summer (these are in no particular order).
